What is the Chatonio App?
On iPhone and iPad, Chatonio is a native app you install from the App Store, with full push notifications. On Android, Chatonio installs as a Progressive Web App (PWA) straight from your browser — nothing to download from the Play Store. Either way you get an app icon on your home screen, a standalone window, and push notifications when new messages come in.
This article covers iPhone, iPad, and Android. On desktop (Mac, Windows, and Linux), Chatonio is a downloadable app — see Install the Chatonio App on Desktop.
iPhone & iPad (iOS / iPadOS)
The easiest way to get Chatonio on your iPhone or iPad is the native app: open the App Store, search for “Chatonio”, and install it. Sign in with your operator account and allow notifications when prompted — the native app delivers full push notifications even when it is closed.
Prefer not to use the App Store? You can also add Chatonio to your home screen from Safari (other iOS browsers cannot do this):
Open chatonio.com in Safari and log in.
Tap the Share button in the toolbar (the square with an arrow pointing up).
Tap More
Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
Confirm the name and tap Add. The Chatonio icon will appear on your home screen.
The first time you open the app, allow notifications so you get pinged about new conversations even when the app is closed.
Android
On Android, use Chrome (or any Chromium-based browser like Edge, Brave, or Samsung Internet).
Open chatonio.com in Chrome and log in.
Tap the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
Select Install app (or Add to Home screen on older versions).
Tap Install to confirm. Chatonio will be added to your app drawer and home screen.
When prompted, allow notifications so incoming messages reach you in real time.
After installing
Enable notifications the first time you open the app — this is what makes push alerts work when the app is closed.
Stay logged in: the app keeps your session, so you only need to sign in once.
Uninstalling: long-press the icon and remove it just like any other app.
